Our circular dipole halbach array is pre-assembled from 8 powerful, grade N48 neodymium magnets configured according to the drawing to the left and enclosed in a protective nickel plated steel casing. The average flux density on the outside of the array is less than 500 gauss. Inside of the array, the surface gauss can reach 1 Tesla, while the average field density throughout the 1 inch diameter is 0.6 Tesla (or 6000 gauss). There is one North pole and one South pole on the inner diameter of the array.

Here is a nice article from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory about a new electromechanical battery design that uses a dipole halbach array as a magnetic bearing, and a indepth paper on magnetic bearings that use dipole halbach arrays. And here is US Patent 5495221 - Dynamically stable magnetic suspension/bearing system that was filed in 1994 by Richard Post. You may also want to have a look at some of the other patents filed by Mr. Post.
